My name is Cindy Shelton and I live in Bayfield with 4 Shetland sheepdogs and we as a family are considered the “Sassy girls” My show is called “No Fences” In reflection I have always been a very creative person. I was always the one thinking outside the box and coming up with ideas for projects. Growing up in Texas gives me my rock and roll cowgirl attitude, a short stint in Santa Barbara gave me my surfer girl fix , but the mountains and the beauty of Southern Utah, Monument Valley in particular, has had my heart for 27 years. I ended up in the floral business in my late 20’s and many times through the years I have often said “God put me in the flower business to atone for bad decisions in my early 20’s” Don’t get me wrong, the business lead me through some incredible experiences and stories that I am now writing about. Stuff you can’t make up!
8 years ago, I took a beginning watercolor class and never quit! Art has become my passion. It is what I get excited about every day. I hold no boundaries on myself when creating and use a lot of unusual materials that true watercolor purists snub their noses at. I like that! That is the main reason I call this show, “No Fences” All art has rules to learn, but once you learn them breaking most of those rules is the fun part! I don’t consider myself a “Fine Artist”. There are no deep meanings in my work, but each piece has a story to tell. Trying to convey some deep, contemplative thought process is boring to me and takes the joy away. Have fun looking at my work and make up your own story!
