Lavender Wreaths
Tuesday, July 14th, 6:00 p.m. marked the first day of Create Art and Tea’s new effort to host workshops and classes. Yvonne Lashmett, a local Durango artist, led a wreath making class. Sprigs of lavender, grown and dried by Yvonne, herself, laid neatly on the table next to the other supplies needed to create these aromatic, eye pleasing, and decorative pieces. A pot of lavender tea brewed, as students shuffled in. Everyone was eager to learn, as well as create alongside Yvonne. The upstairs loft buzzed with sounds of rustling lavender, scissors, and murmurs of conversation, as students were transformed into makers. At the end of the session, the class members proudly carried their hand-made works with them and said their goodbyes. Each student left with a beautifully made summertime wreath that would soon decorate their homes and remind them of this well spent evening.
